Message from the Executive Director | New TAC Online Training

Friday, October 28, 2022

This fall, I am excited to share news about TAC’s learning program. Building on the success of our free webinars (including almost 70 recorded events), TAC now offers online training courses through a learning management system that can deliver both live and recorded content. As transportation organizations face a growing need for skilled employees, and as practitioners increasingly manage their own professional development, we believe this is an important way to add value for members while solidifying TAC’s role as Canada’s leading source of transportation guidance.

We are especially proud to launch our inaugural online training program, Road Safety for Canadian Practitioners – a suite of five courses that addresses the foundations of road safety, measuring safety, human factors, solving safety problems and implementing road safety programs. This unequalled learning opportunity was made possible through a partnership between TAC and ITE Canada with financial support from ten other organizations, oversight by a steering committee of dedicated volunteers, and expertise from leading Canadian road safety consultants. We are proud to make these courses available to the transportation community, and to enhance Canada’s expertise and outcomes in road safety.

More additions to TAC’s Online Training Centre are planned. Staff are working with TAC’s volunteer councils and committees to identify and prioritize technical training needs in the marketplace, and the TAC Board of Directors has expressed its support by setting aside funds for the development of new courses. Thanks to this investment, we will be able to launch a variety of online courses over the coming months and years.

We are enthusiastic about building an online training portfolio that reflects TAC’s publications as well as other topics, and that benefits our member organizations and Canada’s community of practitioners. Our Association remains committed to continuously evolving so that we can better meet the needs of our members and stakeholders, while fostering leadership and developing people in the transportation sector.
